This is a digital image of my latest creation. In addition to stereo photography, one of my other passions is fly fishing, especially on big streams in pursuit of big fish. I spent one fruitless day on the St. Mary's Rapids at Sault Ste. Marie and knew then that I really missed the big rivers of Washington, Oregon and Northern California that I used to fly fish on when I was much younger. I also began to obsess about getting a more substantial reel than I currently had. I found a nice reel on the internet but as soon as it arrived I knew that it was not suitable for my needs and returned it. Frustrated, I decided to make my own. I had access to a friend's larger lathe for the really big stuff and I could make the rest on my tiny Sherline lathe. I made the spool and roughed out the rims on the large lathe and finished making everything else except the reel foot with the Sherline. The reel foot was made with my own new large(r) lathe. I couldn't be happier with the results. There is more information at JRS Design Fly Reels
